ABOUT

Mitrani Art (M.Art) is a non-profit collaborative organization dedicated to the cultivation of photography, film and video art through exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and educational programming. We believe that photo and lens-based art are inclusive mediums with a distinct ability to shape emotions, convey stories and affect change. Set to open in 2026, Mitrani Art will offer a gathering space for artistic exploration, dialogue, and mentorship—contributing to the next chapter of Miami’s cultural landscape with a focus on educational enrichment through visual storytelling.

The converted mechanic shop in Little River, designed by Miami’s own R+R Studios, (rr-studios.com) includes multi-use galleries, a screening room and a library of lens-based books largely donated by esteemed local photographer Peggy Levison Nolan. The newly built extension consists of sun-filled, creative-maker studios surrounding an outdoor enclosed courtyard for cultural and private events.

HISTORY

With a hunch that Miami’s art scene was about to boom, Miami native sisters Dina and Rhonda Mitrani relocated back home from New York City in 2001 to repurpose their family’s old garment factory into art studios. They slowly transformed the Mitrani Warehouse into art galleries, an acting school, an independent fashion museum and a design and architecture showroom. Rhonda set up her office for the Florida Room Documentary Film Festival and Dina opened her photography gallery focusing on international contemporary photography in 2008. In 2013, Rhonda opened The Screening Room, a space solely dedicated to video art and film. The carefully curated spaces culminated in a thriving cultural hub within the growing Wynwood Art District, and the Mitrani Warehouse became a destination for international museum curators, collectors and artists during Miami Art Week and throughout the year. As natives of this vibrant multicultural city, the Mitrani sisters’ passion for the growing arts and culture in Miami is evident in their extensive history in Wynwood, their collaborative work with other local, national and international institutions, and their support of lens-based artists.

Raised by Cuban and Argentine parents, Rhonda Mitrani left Miami for U of Michigan and moved to NYC to work in film.  In 2024, Mitrani received her MFA in Film from VCFA, a partner of CalArts.  Rhonda began her career in post production at Miramax Films until she started editing for independent film and television.  After learning the craft of telling a story, Mitrani began to make films and video art.  Her first documentary, CUBA MIA, was acquired by PBS and premiered at Miami Film Festival and NY International Latino Film Festival.  Her work has appeared on Showtime, HBO Latino,  Dot Fifty-One Gallery, the Wynwood Art Fair, The Girl’s Club Collection, Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB) and Boca Raton Museum.

In 2011, Rhonda co-founded RPM Projects with sculptor Patricia Schnall-Guttierez and photographer Marina Font, a collaborative dedicated to multi-sensory female experiences and best known for large-scale multimedia installations and short films.

Mitrani recognized the need in Miami for a multi-disciplinary space dedicated to new-media and founded The Screening Room (TSR) in 2013.  TSR has worked with local, national and international video artists and curators.  Partnerships include The Wolfson Museum, Alliance Francais,  Miami Film Festival and Yossi Milo Gallery. TSR is a two time Knight Foundation Art Challenge recipient and has been published in Art Forum, Art Nexus,  Miami Herald, Huffington Post and Frieze Magazine.

In 2016, Mitrani returned to narrative filmmaking and directed her first short SUPERMARKET (Film Shortage). She was commissioned by LPB to direct a short documentary, STILL STANDING, for their Latinos Are Essentials program. As the recipient of the  Ellies Award, Mitrani directed WITH GRACE, a short documentary about love and aging. Mitrani lives in Miami with her husband and three children.

Dina Mitrani is a Miami-based photography gallerist, curator, and art advisor with over three decades of experience in the visual arts. Dina is best known for founding the Dina Mitrani Gallery in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District in 2008, one of the first galleries in the city dedicated exclusively to fine art photography. For over more than a decade, she built a platform for emerging and mid-career artists working at the intersection of photography and conceptual or narrative practices, often blending mixed media. The gallery became a vital educational and cultural resource, offering artist talks, photo book events, and intimate gatherings that bridged artists, audiences, and collectors.

Her curatorial collaborations include nationally and internationally recognized exhibitions, such as projects with Peter Fetterman Gallery from LA (Willy Ronis, Lillian Bassman, Sebastiao Salgado), Patricia Ruiz-Healy from San Antonio (Chuck Ramirez), and Inez Suen (Shen Chao-Liang) from Taiwan. She has reviewed artist portfolios at major photography festivals including Photolucida in Portland, PhotoNola in New Orleans, FotoFest in Houston, Palm Springs Photo Festival, and Atlanta Celebrates Photography, and frequently leads talks and critiques at both the university and high school levels.

Beyond the gallery, Dina has curated exhibitions for the Miami Design District and Collective 62 and held board positions with the Miami Art Dealers Association and the Photography Center at History Miami Museum. She also served as an art advisor to The Finvarb Companies, curating permanent collections for Hyatt and Marriott hotels throughout South Florida. She will be teaching at Barry University as an adjunct professor in the Fall of 2025.

Dina began her career in New York, working at Christie’s Auction House, Mary-Anne Martin Fine Art, and Throckmorton Fine Art. She holds a BA in the History of Art from the University of Michigan and an MA in Art History from Hunter College. She lives in Miami and is the proud mother of two daughters.
